Santa Teresa and Lapa
Santa Teresa is a district with very special flair. Located on the hills close to the city center it offers narrow streets to walk along old houses, watch artists at their work and enjoy the wonderful view on Rio. Take the famous little train called “bodinho” which runs from Rio downtown via Arcos da Lapa, an old aqueduct to Santa Teresa. This aqueduct with 42 arches covering 270 meters at an altitude of 17,60 meters carries water from the Carioca river to the fountains at Largo da Carioca. It gives this district this distinctive flair. Don’t miss Rua Manual Carneiro with the “Escaderia Selaron” a very romantic corner of this artist district. With a little luck you meet the artist Selaron himself at tile works on his stair.
