District of Barra - Rio de Janeiro

The city district of Barra is quite far away from Rio downtown, Copacabana and Ipanema. Taxi fees from Ipanema are around 10 Euro. While Ipanema is the district of the upper class you rather find middle class people at Barra. The townscape is very American with big shopping centers and broad streets difficult to cross for pedestrians. The best way to move around is hiring a taxi. It is rather difficult to detect the right buses.

The beaches of Barra have by far less surf than the beaches at Ipanema or Copacabana. The water and the sand are very clean. There are lots of different nightlife opportunities and great clubs. Shopping centers like Barra Shopping are worth a visit.
